Cleaning, chlorination and testing

Chlorination and cleaning is a vital step in maintaining water hygiene and controlling Legionella.

Water authorities have a duty of care to prevent contamination of water systems and as such will NOT allow any new mains pipe work to be connected to the main without prior disinfection and sampling. A full flush/swab, chlorination and micriobiological sample must first be performed and the relevant certificates and sample results presented to the water authority.

To maintain water hygiene within buildings it is important to inspect water storage tanks at least annually and clean them if they show signs of debris build up. If tanks are badly soiled then it is advisable to also carry out a disinfection of the down services connected to the tanks. This maintains water hygiene and prevents proliferation of harmful bacteria such as Legionella; it is often one of the first requirements after any Legionella risk assessment.

Process water systems require disinfection to maintain water hygiene in food and drink production processes and to prevent Legionella in cooling systems such as cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

We provide all types of cleaning and disinfection work to meet all relevant guidelines such as BS8558, Water Authority and ACOP L8 using our own qualified and experienced staff. We provide a chlorination certificate on completion and a full independent microbiology certificate approximately 5 days later.

We liaise with the client to ensure our staff carry out the disinfection in the safest possible manner with minimal disruption. All our staff are health and safety trained with the CSCS card and also hold the water hygiene blue card.
